How to Clean & Care for Your Bathroom Vanity (and Why PVC is Easiest)

A new vanity unit is the highlight of any bathroom, but keeping it looking flawless requires the right care. The cleaning method, however, depends entirely on the material. Using the wrong product on the wrong surface can lead to disaster.

Here’s a simple guide to caring for your bathroom furniture.

Cleaning Standard MDF or Chipboard Vanities

This is where the most danger lies. Because the core is absorbent wood fibre, moisture is your enemy.

NEVER spray cleaner directly onto the surface. The liquid can run down and seep into seams and edges.

DO spray a small amount of non-abrasive, gentle cleaner onto a soft, dry microfibre cloth.

WIPE the surface gently, never scrub.

IMMEDIATELY wipe the entire unit down with a second, completely dry cloth. Do not leave any moisture, especially on edges, joints, or around handles.

WARNING: Avoid bleach, ammonia, or any harsh abrasive cleaners, as they can damage the thin vinyl or paint coating, allowing water to get in.

Cleaning 100% Waterproof PVC Vanities (The Easy Way)

This is where the benefit of waterproof PVC truly shines. Because the material itself is a solid, non-porous polymer, you don't have to worry about water absorption.

BE BOLD: You can spray a gentle, all-purpose bathroom cleaner directly onto the surface to tackle toothpaste or soap scum.

WIPE CLEAN: Use a soft, non-abrasive cloth (like microfibre) to wipe the unit down.

RINSE & DRY: You can wipe with a damp cloth to rinse, and while the unit is 100% waterproof, it's always good practice to buff it dry with a clean cloth to prevent water spots and maintain the high-gloss or matt finish.

DURABILITY: The lacquered finish is tough and designed for a wet environment. You don't have to panic about every splash or a bit of steam.

The Key Difference

Caring for an MDF or chipboard vanity is a constant battle against water infiltration. Caring for a 100% waterproof PVC unit is simply about keeping the surface clean.

It’s the difference between temporary "water resistance" and permanent "waterproof" peace of mind.

All our Form and Flow collection units are made from high-quality, lacquered PVC, making them incredibly durable and the easiest to care for on the market.
